Sept. 29, 2009Central’s Steenhoek wins league honor
PELLA—Central College defensive tackle Aaron Steenhoek (junior, Pella) is the Iowa Conference football defensive player of the week.
Steenhoek recorded 3.5 tackles for loss for 28 yards, including 2.5 quarterback sacks, in Central’s 24-6 league victory over Coe College Saturday. He had six tackles overall, five of which were unassisted. Steenhoek led the Dutch defense which limited Coe to 10 yards rushing and just 199 yards total offense.
Steenhoek is second in the conference in sacks for the year with 4.5. Teammate Shane Wong (junior, Pleasant Hill, Southeast Polk HS) is the leader with 5.0.
Central plays host to Cornell College Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium.
