Sept. 23, 2009Central shuts out Buena Vista
AMES—The Central College women’s tennis squad made quick work of Buena Vista Univ. with a 9-0 victory at Ames Wednesday.
Central (7-4) swept all six singles matches in straight sets and didn’t surrender a point in five of the six. Emily Swartz (sophomore, Eldora, South Hardin HS) and Kayla Donner (sophomore, Metamora, Ill., Metamora Township HS) were shutout winners at Nos. 2 and 4 singles, respectively, then teamed for an 8-0 decision at No. 2 doubles. Buena Vista dropped to 0-8.
The Dutch take the weekend off with the exception of some intrasquad action during Central’s homecoming. They won’t resume action until Saturday, Oct. 3 when they play host to a pair of challenging foes, meeting Augustana College (Ill.) at 9 a.m. and Luther College at noon at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex courts. Central hasn’t played Augustana since 2004. The Vikings took a 5-7 record into a Wednesday match at St. Ambrose. Luther, which defeated Central at Decorah last fall, 6-3, is 8-1.
