Grand View outscores Dutch

DES MOINES—Fresh off its first win of the season, the Central College women’s soccer team couldn’t keep its momentum going against Grand View Univ., coming away with a 9-1 non-conference loss Tuesday night.

The Dutch (1-7) got their lone goal from Kristi Klatt (junior, Cedar Falls) in the 75th minute off an unassisted free kick. It was her team-high fourth goal of the season.

“Grand View (3-6-1) is a good program and they executed very well tonight,” coach Colin Kuchy said. “We just got into a hole and couldn’t claw our way out. I thought we had some good moments tonight but we weren’t able to put anything together.”

Central was playing with a downsized roster and several players were forced to play out of position.

“Coming off of Saturday’s game we had a few injuries so we had to make some adjustments in our lineup,” Kuchy said. “We were also battling some sickness on the squad so there were a lot of new things going on.”

Goalkeepers Shelby Austin (freshman, Wichita, Kan., Goddard HS) and Abby Norman (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) combined to make 12 saves, with nine and three, respectively.

Central will continue its road tour Saturday with a non-conference match-up at St. Mary’s (Neb.) in Omaha, Neb at 1 p.m. The Flames hold a 4-3-2 record entering the contest. It will mark the first match-up between the two programs.
