Ripperger notches 21 kills in setback

WAVERLY—Central College outside hitter Michelle Ripperger (senior, Urbandale) had a career-high 21 kills but the Dutch dropped their Iowa Conference volleyball opener Tuesday at Wartburg College, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23.

Ripperger hit .350 but the Dutch (7-3 overall, 0-1 conference) hit just .149 overall. Setter Maggie Snyder (sophomore, Alexandria, Minn., Rosemount HS) had 46 assists and 17 digs while right-side hitter Ashley Ellingson (junior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) had 10 kills and libero Chelsea Grieger (sophomore, Pella) had 21 digs.

Wartburg (5-5 overall, 2-0 conference) hit .195, including .257 in the fourth set.

Central’s road warriors, who don’t play their home season opener until next Tuesday, venture next to Ripon, Wis. for the Ripon Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Dutch clash with host Ripon College (Wis.) at 6 p.m. Friday and Maranatha Baptist (Wis.) at 8 p.m. Saturday they compete against Lawrence (Wis.) at 10 a.m. and Carroll (Wis.) at 2 p.m. Ripon took a 5-6 record into matches with Wis.-Oshkosh and St. Norbert (Wis.) Tuesday night. Maranatha Baptist (Wis.) was 5-3 prior to a Tuesday match at Concordia College (Wis.).
