PELLA—Score one for the son.
In their first meeting as college head coaches, Matt Tyler’s Wartburg College women’s tennis squad toppled his father Steve Tyler’s Central College team 6-3 Tuesday.
Wartburg (4-2) took two of three doubles matches and four singles matches in the 3-hour, 15-minute contest.
Central’s Faith Bliss (senior, Ottumwa) won at No. 2 singles while Kayla Donner (sophomore, Metamora, Ill., Metamora Township HS) came back after dropping the first set, 6-0, and scored a 6-3, 12-10 win at No. 5.
The team of Sara Dale (senior, Marshalltown) and Stephanie Gibbons (junior, Ankeny) secured a victory at No. 2 doubles.
Central (2-2) plays a pair of additional matches against Iowa Conference foes Saturday at Dubuque. The Dutch meet the Univ. of Dubuque at 10 a.m., then take on Loras College at 2 p.m. Last season Central downed Dubuque 7-2 and Loras 9-0 at Pella. Loras is 4-2 while Dubuque is 2-3.
