Sept. 4, 2009Big second half costs Central
PELLA—A four-goal outburst in 21 minutes lifted the St. Catherine Univ. (Minn.) past the Central College women’s soccer team 5-0 Friday.
The Dutch (0-2) kept things interesting in the first half, allowing only a Kaitlin Kramer goal in the 17th minute.
But the Wildcats (2-0) stretched the lead to 5-0 with 17:43 left in the contest. St. Catherine outshot Central 14-3.
Still, coach Colin Kuchy said his young club is making some early season progress.
“There were a lot of encouraging aspects to the game,” he said. “I was quite pleased with our play in the first half and the start of the second half. But our maturity level showed. This is still a young team.”
Kuchy said the Dutch are also displaying an improved work rate over last season.
Central comes right back Saturday to meet St. Mary’s (Minn.). The Cardinals are 1-0 after a 2-1 victory at Simpson College Friday.
“I expect a more even match,” Kuchy said. “But we’re more concerned with focusing on our style of play and mastering that.”
