June 4, 2009Central's Boeke on academic team
PELLA—Central College senior Rachel Boeke of Cedar Rapids (Jefferson HS) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII women’s track and field/cross country team.
She was a second-team selection. The team is chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Boeke, who majored in exercise science-athletic training, carried a 3.58 cumulative grade point average.
At the NCAA Division III championships in Marietta, Ohio May 21-23, Boeke earned all-America honors in the shot put and the discus. She placed sixth in the shot put and eighth in the discus. She also claimed Iowa Conference titles in both events.
Boeke was earlier named an academic all-Iowa Conference honoree.
Three other Iowa Conference athletes were cited. Wartburg College’s Hannah Baker and Kelsey Steffens were first-team picks while Cornell College’s Rachelle Hawkins was selected for the second team.
