Rachael Everingham

Central's Everingham on all-America team

PELLA—Central College freshman Rachael Everingham of Georgetown, Ill. (Ridge Farm HS) has been chosen for the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America softball squad.

Everingham, a designated player, is a second-team selection. She becomes the 19th Central softball player to receive all-America recognition and follows graduated Dutch catcher Kelly Harris, a third-team honoree a year ago.

She is just the second freshman in Central history to receive the honor. Pitcher Missey Allen was a second-team choice in 1993.

Also a first-team all-Iowa Conference selection, Everingham hit .364 with 39 hits. She had one double, two triples, two home runs and 25 RBIs in her rookie season. Everingham drew 14 walks and had a .435 on-base percentage. Her seventh-inning homer gave Central a 3-2 walk-off victory over Augustana College (Ill.) April 16.

Everingham helped lead the Dutch to their 10th Iowa Conference championship and their 21st NCAA Division III tournament berth. Central closed with a 36-8 record, after finishing 24-16 in 2008.
