April 25, 2009Dutch 4 x 400 squad takes fourth at Drake Relays
DES MOINES—After winning its heat Friday the Central College men’s 4 x 400 meter relay team placed fourth in the college division finals Saturday in front of a sellout crowd at the 100th running of the Drake Relays. Despite having the slowest qualifying time in the finals the Central squad of freshman Kyle Wood (Newton) and juniors Matt Patrick (Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS), Luke Bolander (Des Moines, East HS) and Alex Miller (Adel, Van Meter HS) overcame the wind and cold temperatures to beat its time from Friday by over one second in 3 minutes, 17.01 seconds. The time is also Central’s fastest this spring in the event.
After competing in both the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Invitational hosted by Simpson College, the Dutch host their own Central Open Friday as well as the Iowa Conference Multi-Event Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium track.
