April 25, 2009Dutch compete in night meet at Simpson
INDIANOLA—Central College’s Rachel Boeke (senior, Cedar Rapids, Jefferson HS) matched her career best effort in the shot put Friday evening and earned provisional qualifying status for the NCAA Division III track and field championships.
Boeke and the Dutch men’s and women’s squads were competing in the non-scored Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College. It was a partial Central team as several athletes were at the Drake Relays in Des Moines earlier in the day.
Boeke’s toss of 42 feet, 8.25 inches equaled her best throw from a year ago and was a 9-foot improvement over her season best. She was the top collegiate competitor in the event Friday and placed second overall. Boeke was also fifth in the discus (130-11).
There were several career best performances including from Kelsey Peterson (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS), who was second in the javelin (125-8), Amanda Mosinski (sophomore, Packwood, Pekin HS), who was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.28) and Carissa Bentz (junior, Ute, Boyer Valley HS), who was eighth in the 200 meters (27.47 seconds). Meanwhile Amy Ledvina (junior, Toledo, South Tama HS) was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:56.23), Caitlin Wilson (freshman, Oakland, Riverside HS) tied for seventh in the high jump (5-1) and Megan Kittleson (freshman, Osage) was seventh in the shot put (38-1.5). Central’s 4x100-meter relay team was fifth (52.60 seconds).
For the men, Derek Townsend (junior, Perry) logged a new career best in the 800 meters, finishing third in 1:54.02. Matt Golden (freshman, Davenport, Assumption HS) also had a personal best in taking seventh in the javelin at 150-0.
Matt Graber (sophomore, Newton) was fourth in the shot put (50-4.75) with Josh Garrison (freshman, Maxwell, Collins-Maxwell HS) sixth (48-0.75)Teddy Clark (senior, Montgomery, Ill., Oswego HS) was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:56.59), Kurtis Brondyke (sophomore, Clinton) was fifth in the long jump (22-1.75)
