Central continues ratings climb

PELLA—Central College climbed once again in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III softball rankings, moving to No. 4.

The Dutch took a 30-4 record into Wednesday’s Iowa Conference doubleheader with Loras College at Dubuque. Central was rated fifth a week ago. Iowa Conference rival Wartburg College, 32-4, moved up five spots to No. 12 while Luther College, 29-5, tumbled from No. 4 to No. 23 after dropping a pair of games. Central and Wartburg started the day tied for first in the Iowa Conference at 11-3.

East Texas Baptist (30-4) is the new leader, up from No. 2. Last week’s No. 1, Linfield College (Ore.) (32-3), is next, followed by Louisiana College (30-4). Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Central’s opponent for a doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Minnesota, debuts at No. 21and is 28-4 after splitting a doubleheader with No. 8 Un iv. of St. Thomas (Minn.) (32-4). Gustavus Adolphus holds a one-game lead in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference race.
