STORM LAKE—The Central College men’s tennis team scored wind-swept victories Tuesday.
The Dutch men blanked Buena Vista Univ. 9-0 and Martin Luther College (Minn.) 9-0. The Central women shut out Martin Luther 9-0.
The Central men improved to 10-8 under first-year coach Steve Tyler, and dropped just one set on the day.
“It was a challenge with the wind and our focus,” Tyler said. “Particularly in the morning match, the weather was a bit harsh. But I thought both the men and the women played pretty controlled for the conditions.”
Central has the weekend off and will carry the No. 3 seed into the six-team league tournament April 30-May 2.
“For us to go in as the No. 3 seed, that was our goal,” Tyler said. “We’ve got six practices yet, so we’ll work on a couple things. We’ll continue to work on serve and return. We’ll practice hard and then go and give it our best shot.”
The Dutch women are 4-2 in their abbreviated spring season and play host to Grinnell College Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex courts. Central then travels to Cedar Rapids for the Iowa Conference qualifier Saturday. The meet features the top teams from last fall’s league meet competing for the conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
