April 17, 2009Taylor takes sixth in 5,000 meter run
CRETE, NEB.—Three Central throwers placed in the top eight in the women’s javelin competition as the Dutch competed during the first day of the Doane Relays hosted by Doane (Neb.) College. The two-day meet opened with the long-distance events and a pair of field events Friday night.
Sophomore Kelsey Petersen (Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS), junior Carissa Bentz (Ute, Boyer Valley HS) and sophomore Jill Ziskovsky (Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) each shattered their previous bests in the javelin. Petersen recorded a throw of 123 feet, 5 inches, nearly four feet further than her previous best. Bentz topped her best by over eight feet with a throw of 121-11, and Ziskovsky beat her best by over 10 feet with a throw of 102-05.
Central got a seventh-place finish from senior Jess Clark (Port Byron, Ill., Riverside HS) in the women’s 5,000 meter run with a time of 19 minutes, 53.81 seconds, and junior Pierre Taylor (Montgomery, Ill., Oswego HS) placed sixth in the men’s 5,000 meter run in a time of 16:20.73.
