April 15, 2009Dutch shut out by Grinnell
GRINNELL—The Central College men’s tennis team was unable to take an individual match against regionally-ranked Grinnell College Wednesday in a 9-0 loss.
Grinnell (14-8), ranked No. 8 in the Central region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, took control early winning all three doubles matches. Jacob Veldhuizen and Joel Druvenga put up Central’s best fight at No. 3 doubles before falling 8-4.
The Dutch struggled in singles competition as well. At No. 2 singles Dan Bowser played tough in the first set before being topped 6-4, 6-2, and at No. 4 singles Seth Harris put up a fight in the second set but fell 6-1, 6-3.
Central (6-9) will return to action Saturday against Iowa Conference foes Loras College and Wartburg College. Last spring Central defeated both teams 9-0 during the regular season, and then beat Wartburg 5-1 at the conference team tournament. The first match will begin at 9 a.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex tennis courts.
