DUBUQUE—After starting its match late Friday night the Central College men’s tennis team played early into Saturday morning against the Univ. of Dubuque, coming away with a 7-1 victory.
The lone match to last longer than two sets was at No. 1 singles where junior Luke Boyd (Fort Dodge) fell 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 to Claudio Giraldi in a match that didn’t end until 12:10 a.m.
The Dutch swept the doubles competition and won handily in the other four singles matches, winning each in straight sets. At No. 2 singles Dan Bowser (sophomore, Fort Dodge) won by injury forfeit up 6-4, 3-1, Seth Harris (freshman, Waverly, Neb.) won at No. 4 singles 6-0, 7-5, Chris Lensing (freshman, Spencer) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles and Jacob Veldhuizen (sophomore, Wausau, Wis., East HS) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Dutch (4-8) who hopped on the bus after the late night of tennis to travel to Waukesha, Wis. for a 2 p.m. match Saturday against Carroll (Wis.).
