April 1, 2009Central drops Wartburg 6-3
PELLA—Freshman Emily Swartz (Eldora, South Hardin HS) and junior Sara Dale (Marshalltown) each notched wins at doubles and singles Wednesday as Central College topped Wartburg 6-3 in a match during the women’s non-traditional season.
“Emily (Swartz) has just been on a roll lately,” said coach Stephen Tyler. “She won twice over the weekend as well. She’s feeling really good about her game right now and has really helped lead the team.”
The Dutch won two of three doubles matches as Swartz and fellow freshman Trinh Le (Des Moines, North HS) were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles while Dale and senior Hilary Baehr (Des Moines, Roosevelt HS) won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Leading 2-1 Central recorded straight-set victories at four spots in singles. Sophomore Carissa Bane (Des Moines, Southeast Polk HS) won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles, Swartz won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, Dale won 6-3, 6-4 at No.4 singles and at No. 2 singles junior Faith Bliss (Ottumwa) won 7-5, 6-2.
Central will return to action Tuesday against Simpson in Indianola at 3 p.m.
