March 24, 2009Central's Davis wins conference honor
PELLA—Central College softball player Angela Davis (freshman, West Des Moines, Valley HS) has been named the Iowa Conference female athlete of the week.
Davis, a second baseman, helped lead the Dutch to a 10-0 week at the Tucson Invitational Games in Arizona. She hit .419 with 13 hits, 10 runs, two doubles, two walks and eight RBIs in 10 games while posting a .486 on-base percentage, a .548 slugging percentage and a .969 fielding percentage.
Davis delivered a two-out, two-run hit in the sixth inning Friday for the tying runs as part of a six-run rally in Central’s come-from-behind 6-4 upset victory over No. 2-ranked Wis.-Eau Claire, the defending NCAA Division III champions.
Central is 15-1 overall and is riding a 13-game win streak. The Dutch open Iowa Conference play Saturday at Mount Vernon with a league doubleheader against Cornell College.
