Central's Brondyke wins league honor

PELLA—Central College pentathlete Kurtis Brondyke (sophomore, Clinton) has been named the Iowa Conference male indoor track and field athlete of the week.

Brondyke qualified for this weekend’s NCAA Division III championships by racking up 3,590 points in winning the Central Last Chance Pentathlon last Friday night. It was a career best, the second-highest point total in school history and the fourth-best in Division III this year.

Brondyke and teammate Ethan Miller (freshman, Seymour) will compete Saturday at 9 a.m. in the NCAA meet at Rose-Hulman Univ. in Terre Haute, Ind.

It’s the second time that Brondyke has garnered conference performer of the week recognition, but the first time in indoor track and field. He was named the league’s football player of the week as a freshman punter Sept. 22, 2007.
