Men get three invidividual victories

MOUNT VERNON—Central College captured six events at the 19-team Hilltop Invitational men’s and women’s indoor track and field meet Saturday at Cornell College. No team scores were kept.    

The men got victories from Teddy Clark (senior, Montgomery, Ill., Oswego HS) in the 3,000 meters (9:04.89), Matt Graber (sophomore, Newton) in the shot put (48-feet, 8.25 inches) and freshman Ethan Miller (Seymour) in the high jump (6-2.25).

Winning for the women were Emily Teas (sophomore, Indianola) in the 400 meters in a career-best 1:00.00, Caitlin Wilson (freshman, Oakland, Riverside HS) in the high jump (4-11) and the 4x400-meter relay squad (4:05.99).

For the Dutch men, Matt Patrick (junior, Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) was second in the 400 meters. In the 800, Derek Townsend (junior, Perry) was second (2:00.10) with Alex Miller (junior, Adel, Van Meter HS) fourth (2:02.91). The Dutch were second in the 4x400-meter relay (3:28.49) and ran a second unit that placed fifth (3:35.82). Freshman Josh Garrison (Maxwell, Collins-Maxwell HS) followed Graber in the shot put, finishing second in a season-best 48-7.25.

Miller won the high jump on the basis of fewest misses, but Jordan Gegner (junior, Martensdale, Martensdale-St. Marys HS) and Kurtis Brondyke (sophomore, Clinton) matched his leap of 6-2.75 to place fifth and seventh, respectively.

For the Central women, Rachelle Tipton (junior, Newton) was third in the 800 meters (2:25.97) with Sara Crippen (sophomore, Williamsburg) sixth (2:33.87). Amy Ledvina (junior, Toledo, South Tama HS) was third in the mile in a personal best 5:27.87 while Jess Clark (senior, Port Byron, Ill., Riverdale HS) lowered her best in the 3,000 meters to 10:51.90 to claim third place. Jill Ziskovsky (sophomore, Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) was fourth in the long jump (16-2.25) and Rachel Boeke (senior, Cedar Rapids, Jefferson HS) was fifth in the shot put (40-6.25).

Central is slated to compete in the Monmouth Invitational at Monmouth, Ill. next Saturday.
