Feb. 4, 2009Central scores third dual win
ROCK ISLAND, ILL.—The Central College wrestling team scored its second victory of the year over Knox College (Ill.) in splitting a pair of duals Wednesday.
The Dutch improved to 3-10, defeating Knox 33-6 before falling to host Augustana College (Ill.) 33-15. Central had won at Knox 34-10 Jan. 10.
Freshman 165-pounder Tommy Van Renterghem (Oskaloosa), 174-pounder Kyle Ray (sophomore, Greenfield, Nodaway Valley HS) and 285-pounder Ted Dirkx (junior, Alleman, North Polk HS) each recorded a pair of victories. Van Renterghem and Ray scored back-to-back falls against Augustana. Van Renterghem upped his record to 19-9 while Ray is 13-11 and Dirkx is 10-11.
The competition level takes a nasty upward turn Saturday as the Dutch travel to Waverly to take on No. 2-ranked perennial power Wartburg College in a 7:30 p.m. dual.
