Clark gets double-double but Dutch fall

PELLA—Center Andrea Clark (sophomore, Guthrie Center) notched her eighth career double-double but Nebraska Wesleyan held off the Central College women’s basketball team 80-70 Saturday.

After trailing 39-33 at halftime, the Dutch (4-7) were down 59-48 midway through the second half before going on an 11-1 run as a Melanie Hopkins (freshman, Earlham) 3-pointer and a Laura Porter (senior, Monroe, PCM HS) layup made it 60-59. But Nebraska Wesleyan (2-7) responded with a 9-2 spurt to regain command.

Clark had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her first statistical double-double of the season. Freshman guard Sarah Paulson (Ottumwa) also had 12 points with five rebounds and three assists, Porter added 11 points and three assists while guard Jordan Waddell (sophomore, Guthrie Center) had 10 points and four assists.

Nebraska Wesleyan guard Shea Rasmussen scored a game-high 21 points and forward Kristina Gould added 19 points and nine boards.

The Prairie Wolves outrebounded Central 40-35 and shot 44.8 percent to Central’s 40.0.

Central takes a two-week Christmas break before returning to Iowa Conference play with a women’s-men’s doubleheader at Pella against Cornell College. Game time is 2 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. The Dutch split a pair of games with Cornell last year. The Rams, who are off until a Dec. 30 game at Monmouth College (Ill.) are 5-3 with two of the losses coming to nationally ranked opponents.
