PELLA—The suspense was over early as Central College burst to a 14-0 lead in the opening 4 minutes and cruised to a 78-39 men’s basketball victory over Crown College (Minn.) Saturday.
The Dutch (7-2) were up 37-10 at halftime. All 16 Central players saw action with forward Loren Liming (junior, Ames, Gilbert HS) leading with 13 points in 16 minutes of play, hitting six of eight shots from the field. Guard Miguel Ley (junior, San Antonio, Texas, Judson HS) had 11 points and three steals. Center Zach Cooper (junior, Johnston) had a game-high nine rebounds.
Central made 27 steals and outrebounded Crown (0-7) 37-30. The Dutch shot 47.6 percent from the field to Crown’s 31.0 percent.
After a week off for fall semester exams, Central makes another home appearance next Saturday, meeting Westminster College (Mo.) at 4 p.m. It’s part of a women’s-men’s doubleheader at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium with the women taking on Nebraska Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Central split a pair of games with Westminster in 2005-06 and 2006-07.
