1993 NCAA Div. III champions
PELLA—Nationally ranked Grand View Univ. sprinted to a 14-2 lead and never looked back in a 90-61 victory over the Central College women’s basketball team Friday.
The Vikings, rated No. 16 in the NAIA Division II, shot 57.6 percent from the floor in notching their 10th win. They placed five players in double figures, led by Bailey Schechinger with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Central forward Emily De Jong (senior, Ankeny) had 17 points while center Andrea Clark (sophomore, Guthrie Center) had 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The Dutch (3-6) were outrebounded 43-28 and shot just 29.8 percent from the field.
“We struggled in the paint against them tonight,” coach Jerry Nikkel said. “They had some big bodies in there and we just don’t have the size to match it. So we need to generate offense from the outside but right now our shots aren’t falling.
“We’ve got some players playing well some of the time but we need to have it all of the time.”
Central is at home again Saturday, meeting Martin Luther College (Minn.) in a 4 p.m. contest at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. It’s a women’s-men’s doubleheader with the Dutch men squaring off with Crown College (Minn.) at 6 p.m. Central rolled past Martin Luther 83-49 last season.
