Dutch debut in national rankings

PELLA—For the first time since the NCAA Division III women’s golf championships were first contested in 1996, Central College has cracked the national rankings while the Dutch men are rated as well. The Dutch men are 22nd in the final fall season Golf World/Nike coaches’ rankings while the women debut in a tie for 25th. There are 152 Division III schools that compete in women’s golf while 285 schools compete in men’s golf. Iowa Conference champion Wartburg is eighth in the Division III women’s rankings while Central is the only league school listed in the men’s national rankings.

Central’s men competed against numerous nationally rated teams in the fall. The Dutch were third in the 23-team Twin Cities Classic Sept. 27-29, second in their own Ryerson Fall Classic Oct. 3-4  and were seventh in a powerful 11-team field at the Oglethorpe (Ga.)/Royal Lakes Fall Classic Oct. 19-21.

The Dutch women pulled a surprise at the Iowa Conference meet, tying for second place. Freshman Sarah Paulson (Ottumwa) captured medalist and league MVP honors while coach Jodee Schaben shared the coach of the year award.

Central’s men’s and women’s squad open their spring campaign at the Dutch Desert Shootout in Arizona in mid-March.
