Nov. 3, 2008Central set for league tourney
PELLA—Game times are set for the Iowa Conference men’s soccer tournament. Central College was 7-1 in league play and is the No. 2 seed, receiving a first-round bye in the six-team tourney. The Dutch will play in a semifinal match Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Waverly. Central (12-6 overall) will take on the winner of Tuesday’s 1 p.m. first-round contest between No. 6-seeded Luther College (8-9-2) and No. 3 Wartburg College (12-6) at Waverly.
Central was defeated 5-3 by Luther Oct. 4 in Decorah, but edged Wartburg 2-1 at Waverly Oct. 25.
Loras College (15-3-1), ranked No. 11 in the NCAA Division III, is the top seed. The Duhawks also play in a semifinal at 1:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of Wednesday’s 6 p.m. contest in Dubuque between No. 5-seeded Simpson College (6-9-2) and No. 4 Univ. of Dubuque (9-8).
Friday’s semifinal winners meet for the tournament title in Waverly Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The tournament winner receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
