PELLA—Loras College stayed in the Iowa Conference title chase with an 8-0 win over the Central College women’s soccer team Wednesday. Loras (12-4-0 overall, 5-1-0 conference) found the net for the first time five minutes in on an unassisted goal by Dolly Duffy and added three more before the half. Brittan Rooney led Loras with two goals in the game, both in the second half.
Goalkeeper Caroline Bartko (freshman, Ingleside, Ill., Grant HS) recorded one save in her first start of the season before Abby Norman (freshman, Geneseo, Ill.) replaced her at the 20-minute mark. Norman had eight saves.
The Dutch were outshot 33-3 by Loras. Forward Lacy Merfeld (freshman, Peosta, Dubuque Hempstead HS) had two shots and midfielder Kristi Klatt (sophomore, Cedar Falls) had one.
Central (3-13 overall, 2-5 conference) travels to Waverly Saturday for a game against league leader Wartburg College (12-2-1 overall, 5-0-0 conference) at 1 p.m. The Dutch faced the Knights twice last season, falling 2-1 at home during the regular season but tying Wartburg in the Iowa Conference tournament semifinals at Dubuque. The Knights advanced through a shootout. The all-time series between the two schools is 7-7-3.
