Dutch top Coe--on to New York

CEDAR RAPIDS—Central College moved to 5-1 in Iowa Conference volleyball play with a 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-18 victory at Coe College Tuesday.

Outside hitter Michelle Ripperger (junior, Urbandale) had 17 kills with 10 digs and hit .441. Middle hitter Lindsay Jennings (junior, Atkins, Benton HS) had nine kills while outside hitter Miranda Kouba (senior, Dubuque, Wahlert HS) had six kills and 14 digs. Setters Megan Callahan (senior, Dubuque, Wahlert HS) and Maggie Snyder (freshman, Alexandria, Minn., Jefferson HS) each had 18 assists. Libero Maggie Nowicki (senior, Madison, Wis., Edgewood HS) had 28 digs and Callahan had 12.

Central is 11-12 overall while preseason league favorite Coe fell to 3-24 overall and 0-6 in the league.

The Dutch return to Pella long enough for a brief nap, then it’s on the road at 3:45 a.m. to catch a flight to New York City for four fall break matches. Central is at Hoboken, N.J. Thursday, meeting Stevens Institute (N.J.) at 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) and triangular host Centenary College (N.J.) at 7:30 p.m. Stevens had a 19-4 record as of Tuesday and was among those schools receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division III coaches’ poll while Centenary took an 8-18 record into a Tuesday night match.

Friday Central is at Baruch College (N.Y.) (13-14) in New York City for a 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) match. The Dutch then compete with Montclair State (N.J.) at 6 p.m. The Red Hawks were 14-9 heading into a Tuesday night match.
