Oct. 4, 2008Central unable to score in 8-0 loss
DECORAH—The Central College women’s soccer team continued to struggle offensively Saturday in an 8-0 loss to Iowa Conference foe Luther College. It looked like Central might go into the half trailing 1-0, but Luther’s Renee Weeks scored with 35 seconds left in the first half to double the lead.
Luther (5-3-2 overall, 1-0-1 conference) added to its lead 10 minutes into the second half, scoring three goals in a period of 2 minutes.
“We fought well at times,” said Colin Kuchy, Central’s head women’s coach. “We had a good first half, we fought well--we just had a few memory lapses.”
Defender Alyssa Brobst (sophomore, Pella) recorded the only shot of the day for the Dutch who were outshot 32-1. Weeks and Anna Grinde each scored two goals for Luther.
Central goalkeeper Abby Norman (freshman, Geneseo, Ill.) had nine saves, eight in the first half.
Central (1-10 overall, 0-2 conference) will face Buena Vista (2-8 overall, 0-1 conference) at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field in Pella.
