Sarah Paulson named Iowa Conference women's golfer of the week

PELLA—For the third time in four weeks, Central College freshman Sarah Paulson (Ottumwa) is the Iowa Conference women’s golfer of the week. It’s the fourth straight week a Central player has been honored. Nicole Wenstrand (sophomore, Essex) was cited Sept. 15. Paulson was previously selected Sept. 8 and 20.

Paulson holds the individual lead at the midpoint of the 72-hole Iowa Conference tournament. She broke the conference 18-hole scoring record with a 1-under-par 71 on the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls Saturday and tied the league’s 36-hole mark at 76-71—147.

She also shattered her own school 36-hole record of 79-74—153 set Sept. 20-21 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Normal, Ill. Paulson’s 71 Saturday tied the school’s 18-hole mark shared by Cindy Kline (1986, 1987) and Jenny Wistrom (1988).

Entering the final 36 holes of the league tournament, Paulson holds a 9-stroke lead. The final two rounds will be played Friday and Saturday at Blank Golf Course in Des Moines.

Central is second in the team standings at 325-323—648, 14 strokes behind defending champion Wartburg College. Central placed sixth in the league a year ago.
