Sept. 22, 2008Paulson wins league honor after breaking mark
PELLA—Central College freshman Sarah Paulson (Ottumwa) and senior Greg Foote (Maple Grove, Minn.) have captured Iowa Conference player of the week honors.
Paulson was cited in women’s golf for the second time after breaking the school 36-hole scoring record at the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Invitational Saturday and Sunday. Playing at the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course, Paulson fired a 79-74—153, topping the mark of 155 set by Cindy Kline at Indianola when she won the conference title in 1987.
It’s the third time that Central has received the women’s golf award this fall. Paulson was previously cited Sept. 8 while Nicole Wenstrand was selected Sept. 15.
Paulson and the Dutch compete in the first two rounds of the Iowa Conference tournament Friday and Saturday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
Foote was named in men’s soccer. After making one save in a 2-1 win at Augustana College (Ill.) Sept. 16, the Dutch goalkeeper posted a shutout in a 1-0 upset victory at No. 14-ranked Wis.-Oshkosh. He made four saves in handing the Titans their first shutout defeat since Nov. 4, 2006, a string of 26 consecutive matches.
Foote previously received the league award Sept. 17, 2007.
Central, 5-3, opens Iowa Conference play against Cornell College Thursday at 4 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field.
