Sept. 20, 2008Central notches a pair of wins
MILWAUKEE, WIS.—Central College breezed to a pair of non-conference wins in Wisconsin Saturday. The Dutch rolled past Mount Mary (Wis.) 25-13, 25-9, 25-19 and Northland Baptist (Wis.) 25-11, 25-15, 25-17 to improve to 5-7.
Against Mount Mary (Wis.), right-side hitters Ashley Ellingson (sophomore, West Des Moines, Valley HS) and Shayna Jacobs (sophomore, Ripon, Calif.) each had nine kills. Outside hitter Michelle Ripperger (junior, Urbandale) had seven kills in just eight attempts. Setter Megan Callahan (senior, Dubuque, Wahlert HS) and outside hitter Miranda Kouba (senior, Dubuque, Wahlert HS) each had five service aces. Callahan had 20 assists and Maggie Snyder (freshman, Alexandria, Minn., Jefferson HS) had 14.
Against Northland Baptist (Wis.) Kouba had seven kills while Callahan and Ripperger each had five. Kouba also had nine digs and four service aces while middle hitter Sara Mouw (sophomore, Greene, North Butler HS) had three blocks. Callahan had 20 assists.
The Dutch continue their break from Iowa Conference action, returning home for the Central Classic Friday and Saturday. Central opens against St. Olaf (Minn.) Friday at 5 p.m. before meeting Carthage (Wis.) at 7 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Saturday the Dutch face
Hope (Mich.) at 10 a.m. and Wis.-River Falls at 2 p.m.
