Sept. 20, 2008Central rallies past William Jewell in 5-4 win
PELLA—On Homecoming Saturday the Central College women’s tennis team pulled out a 5-4 victory over William Jewell College (Mo.).
Central took the lead with doubles wins from Hilary Baehr (senior, Des Moines, Roosevelt) and Stephanie Gibbons (sophomore, Ankeny) at No. 2, 8-5, and at No. 3 from Katie Williamson (sophomore, Pella) and Laura Bade (senior, Boone), 8-2.
The Dutch rallied after William Jewell swept the top three spots in singles. Gibbons was a winner at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 5 Williamsonwon 6-1, 6-2 and Emily Swartz (freshman, Eldora, South Hardin) didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
Central (6-5 overall, 4-2 conference) will travel to Davenport on Monday to play NAIA opponent St. Ambrose. The Dutch last played St. Ambrose in Pella in 2006, winning 9-0.
