Sept. 20, 2008Central falls to Cornell in conference opener
PELLA—Cornell College erupted for four second-half goals to hold off the Central College women’s soccer team Saturday, 5-1. The Dutch snapped a four-game scoreless streak when midfielder Jenna Hindman (junior, Swisher, Iowa, Cedar Rapids Prairie) assisted midfielder Kristi Klatt (sophomore, Cedar Falls, Iowa) to tie the game in the 21st minute.
Cornell put the pressure on the Dutch defense throughout the second half, scoring four goals in under 20 minutes. Leanne Carberry led the offensive attack for Cornell scoring two goals. Cornell took 26 shots to Central’s 8.
Central (1-6 overall, 0-1 conference) will be in action Wednesday against non-conference opponent Mount Mercy at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex. The Dutch defeated Mount Mercy (3-6)5-1 in 2007.
