Central's Berry, Paulson win league honor

PELLA—Central College junior Angie Berry (Norwalk) has been named the Iowa Conference women’s cross country runner of the week while freshman Sarah Paulson (Ottumwa) has received the honor in women’s golf.

Berry was the top league finisher at Saturday’s Central Dutch Invitational, placing third in a field of 124 runners with a 5,000-meter time of 18:52, just 10 seconds off the women’s course record. Central placed third in the eight-team field. The Dutch compete in the Les Duke Invitational at the Oakland Acres Golf Course near Grinnell Saturday morning.

Paulson has made a noisy entry into college golf, tying for second out of 101 players in just her second collegiate meet, the 36-hole Wartburg Invitational in Waverly Saturday and Sunday. Paulson fired a 77-79—156, including a 2-under-par 34 on the back nine of Saturday’s round at the par-72 Centennial Oaks Golf Course, finishing 2 shots out of the lead. Central placed 11th out of 17 teams.

The Dutch play host to the eight-team Central Invitational Friday and Saturday.
