Aug. 30, 2008Central blanked in opener
MILWAUKEE, WIS.—New coach Colin Kuchy and the Central College women’s soccer team endured a scoreless debut Saturday night, getting blanked by the Milwaukee School of Engineering 4-0.
“We played pretty decent for being such a young team and having some injuries,” coach Colin Kuchy said.
Despite yielding four goals, Kuchy was encouraged by the play of goalkeeper Melissa DeRuiter (sophomore, Robins, Linn-Mar HS) in her first collegiate start.
“I was very happy with how she played,” Kuchy said.
MSOE, which defeated North Park (Ill.) Friday, improved to 2-0. No statistics were yet available for the match.
Central stays in Milwaukee Monday for an 11 a.m. game at Alverno College (Wis.). The Inferno opened the year with a 2-1 setback at North Central College (Minn.) Saturday.
