EAU CLAIRE, WIS.—Displaying dramatic improvement over a year ago, the Central College women’s golf team shot 342 and stands 10th out of 26 teams at the Wis.-Eau Claire Fall Invitational Saturday.
In the opening round of last year’s tourney at the par-72 Mill Run Golf Course, the Dutch shot 379 and placed 16th out of 18 teams.
Eva Downes (junior, Woodstock, Ill., Marion Catholic Central HS) shot 83 and is tied for 37th in the 141-player field. Nicole Wenstrand (sophomore, Essex, Shenandoah HS) followed with 84, Abby Lukensmeyer (freshman, Hampton, Hampton-Dumont HS) had 86, Sarah Paulson (freshman, Ottumwa) shot 89 and Allison Crooks (sophomore, Moline, Ill.) had 94.
Iowa Conference rival Wartburg leads the tournament with 313, a stroke better than Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.).
Central also sent its second unit, the White squad, which turned in a 373 and is 22nd. Janelle Stevens (sophomore, West Bend, West Bend-Mallard HS) shot 90, Paige Blythe (freshman, Orange City, MOC-Floyd Valley HS) and Jacquelyn Mauk (freshman, Clive, Valley HS) had 94, Ali Miller (freshman, Davenport, North HS) shot 95 and Lindsey Ellenson (sophomore, Amana, Clear Creek-Amana HS) had 98.
The 36-hole tournament concludes Sunday with a round at the Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire. Central shot 396 on the course last season.
