Fisher wins regional honor

PELLA— For the second straight year, Central College senior Jason Fisher of Montezuma has been named the NCAA Division III Central Region outdoor men’s field athlete of the year.

The award was announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

A two-time all-America honoree, Fisher was an NCAA Division III meet qualifier in the hammer throw and the discus, competing at the national meet in Oshkosh, Wis. May 22-24. He captured the Iowa Conference hammer throw title for the second time, finished second in the league discus and seventh in the shot put.

Fisher, a team co-captain, received Central’s Most Valuable Field Events Performer Award for the third consecutive year. He holds the school hammer throw record (199 feet, 5 inches) and ranks second on the school’s all-time performers list in the discus (166-11). Fisher also holds the school indoor weight throw mark (57-9.5) and ranks fourth on the indoor shot put chart (49-3.5).

Chris Erichsen of of St. John’s (Minn.) is the Central Region’s men’s track athlete of the year. Women’s field event honors went to Caitlin Schetter of Wis.-La Crosse while the women’s regional track athlete of the year is Rachel Anderson of Illinois Wesleyan.
