Central in track power rankings again

PELLA— The Central College men’s and women’s track and field squads are each listed in the top 25 of the final 2008 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association power rankings.

The Dutch women are 19th while the men are 20th. Iowa Conference champ Wartburg is second in the women’s rankings and 11th in the men’s. Central’s men tied for 17th in the NCAA Division III championship meet at Oshkosh, Wis. last weekend while the Dutch women did not place.

However the power rankings are a measure of overall team strength in each event, using a points system based on NCAA qualifying standards. The team’s top-two performances in each event are rated and then totaled for the final score.

Central’s men closed the 2007 season ranked 12th with the women rated 13th. Coach Kevin Sanger’s men’s and women’s squads have each been listed in the top 20 every year since 2000.
