Central’s Dierikx wins heat at national meet, advances to finals

OSHKOSH, WIS.—Central College senior Guy Dierikx (Port Byron, Ill., Riverdale HS) won his heat of the 400 meters Friday at the NCAA Division III track and field championships.

Dierikx’s time of 48.26 seconds won the first heat, guaranteeing him a spot in lane No. 4 in Saturday’s finals scheduled for 2:20 p.m.

“Guy won his heat, so he did what he needed to,” said coach Kevin Sanger.

Also, Dierikx will join Matt Patrick (sophomore, Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS), Alex Miller (sophomore, Adel, Van Meter HS) and Luke Bolander (sophomore, Des Moines, East HS) on the 4x400-meter relay in Saturday’s final scheduled for 4:55 p.m. The unit recorded the fastest qualifying time (3 minutes, 13.99 seconds) Thursday and will run in lane No. 5 in the finals.

Fisher takes 10th in hammer throw—Senior Jason Fisher (Montezuma) closed out his career with a 10th-place finish in the hammer throw. His best effort of 170 feet, 9 inches was three inches shy of advancing him to the finals.

“Things just didn’t click for Jason today,” said Sanger.
