Central lands two on academic team

PELLA—Central College seniors Jared Feddersen (Fort Dodge) and Reid Turner (Des Moines, Grandview Park Baptist HS) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Both are now under consideration for academic all-America recognition.

Feddersen, a men’s tennis team co-captain the past two seasons, was honored for the second straight year. A history and social sciences major, Feddersen graduated with a 3.93 grade point average and is a three-time academic all-Iowa Conference honoree. He is a four-year letterwinner for the Dutch and played at No. 1 singles the past two seasons. Feddersen is tied for third on Central’s career singles wins chart with a 56-40 mark, posting a 12-13 record this spring.

Turner, a co-captain on the Central men’s golf team, graduated with a 3.80 GPA and a chemistry major. Also a three-time academic all-conference honoree, Turner was earlier tabbed as a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for Division III by the Golf Coaches Association of America for the second straight year.

A three-year letterwinner, Turner earned all-Iowa Conference distinction by placing eighth in the league tournament April 25-26/May 2-3. He posted a 75.6 stroke average this spring.

Tyler Burkle, a sophomore at Coe College, and Alec Bonander, a junior at Luther College were also named to the college division squad. Brook Maher, a senior at Northern Iowa, was selected to the university division team.
