Central in power rankings again

PELLA—The Central College men’s and women’s track and field squads are each listed in the top 25 of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association power rankings.

The Dutch women are 17th while the men are 23rd. Iowa Conference champ Wartburg is second in the women’s rankings and 10th in the men’s.

The rankings are not a predictor of the NCAA Division III championships meet, which will be staged next Thursday-Saturday in Oshkosh, Wis. Rather they are a measure of overall team strength in each event, using a points system based on NCAA qualifying standards. The team’s top-two performances in each event are rated and then totaled for the final score.

Central’s men closed the 2007 season ranked 12th with the women rated 13th.

The Dutch are making a final bid for additional NCAA Division III meet qualifiers this evening at the Augustana Twilight Open in Rock Island, Ill.
