May 13, 2008Central golfer receives academic honor
PELLA—Central College senior Reid Turner (junior, Des Moines, Grandview Park Baptist HS) has been named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for Division III by the Golf Coaches Association of America for the second straight year.
To be eligible for selection, a player must be a junior or senior, participate in at least 70 percent of the team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA championship tournament, have a stroke average of 79.0 or better and a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20.
Turner has a 3.80 GPA with a chemistry major. A three-time academic all-Iowa Conference honoree, Turner also earned all-Iowa Conference honors by placing eighth in the league tournament April 25-26/May 2-3.
Other Iowa Conference players named All-America Scholars are Thomas Lantzy and Paul Soener of Luther College.
