May 13, 2008Central’s Hutchinson named athlete of the week
PELLA—Central College senior Kari Hutchinson of Charles City has been named the Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week after being selected as the league women’s track and field MVP last weekend.
It’s the second straight week that Hutchinson has been honored. She was the women’s track and field athlete of the week after winning the league heptathlon May 2-3 in Waverly.
At the league meet in Waverly Friday and Saturday, Hutchinson followed that performance by placing third in the 200 meters (25.42 seconds) and the 400 meters (57.47 seconds), fourth in the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches), sixth in the long jump (16-10.5) and then anchoring Central’s first-place 4x400-meter relay team (3:55.57). The relay time nearly broke a school record and topped the NCAA Division III meet provisional-qualifying standard, as did Hutchinson’s 400-meter time.
In the six events Hutchinson helped produce 40 points for the Dutch, who finished second in the conference team standings.
Hutchinson and her teammates will compete in the Central Last Chance Open Wednesday at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella.
