May 5, 2008Central’s Petersen, Hutchinson win league honors
PELLA—Central College’s Andrew Petersen (junior, Davenport, West HS) and Kari Hutchinson (senior, Charles City) received Iowa Conference honors Monday.
Petersen was named the conference male athlete of the week after being the Iowa Conference men’s golf championship medalist for the second straight year. Peterson shot 37-79-75-75—266 at the league meet that was contested at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City April 25-26 and at the Oneota Country Club in Decorah last Friday and Saturday. The tourney was shortened to 63 holes because of bad weather. Petersen was also named the Iowa Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year for the second consecutive campaign. The No. 25-ranked Dutch placed second in the team standings.
It’s the fourth time Petersen has received the conference golfer of the week award. He also was honored April 10, 23 and 30 last year.
Hutchinson receives track and field award--Hutchinson was tabbed the
women’s outdoor track and field performer of the week after winning the conference heptathlon at Waverly Friday and Saturday with an NCAA Division III meet provisional-qualifying mark of 4,310 points.
In March, Hutchinson received all-America honors at the NCAA Division III indoor meet in March, helping the Dutch place eighth in the 4x400-meter relay team.
Hutchinson and the Central track and field teams return to Waverly Friday and Saturday for the remainder of the men’s and women’s Iowa Conference championship meets.
