May 2, 2008Central's Hutchinson leads league heptathlon
WAVERLY—Central College’s Kari Hutchinson (senior, Charles City) has grabbed the midpoint lead in the Iowa Conference heptathlon.
Hutchinson, who placed second in the league last year with 4,414 points, leads with 2,608. Simpson’s Suzi Anderson is second with 2,328 while Central freshman Jill Ziskovsky (Dallas Center, Dallas-Center Grimes HS) is fourth with 2,283.
In the decathlon, Central junior Greg Foote (Maple Grove, Minn.) is fifth with 3,090 points. Cornell’s James Klobucar leads with 3,433. Foote was sixth in the league last year with 5,710 points and seventh in 2006.
Hutchinson was first in the 200 meters (25.59 seconds) and in the 100 meter hurdles (16.05 seconds) with Ziskovsky third in both (26.37 seconds and 16.66 seconds, respectively). Hutchinson was third in the high jump (1.49 meters) with Ziskovsky sixth (1.34 meters) and was also third in the shot put (8.89 meters) with Ziskovsky fourth (8.54 meters).
Foote was fourth in the 100 meters (11.74 seconds), fifth in the 400 meters (52.70 seconds), seventh in the high jump (1.76 meters), fifth in the long jump (6.26 meters) and eighth in the shot put (9.50 meters).
The heptathlon and decathlon wrap up Saturday. The rest of the Iowa Conference track and field championships will be staged in Waverly next Friday and Saturday.
