April 26, 2008Rohner second in conference finals
CEDAR RAPIDS—Senior Nick Rohner (Wichita, Kan., Kapaun Mount Carmel HS) played the maximum number of matches in the Iowa Conference men’s tennis Flight B singles and doubles championships Saturday to close out his Central College career.
Rohner advanced to the Flight B singles and doubles finals before bowing out in the title matches.
“What a great way to close out a career,” said coach Bryan Mours. “Nick’s mental strength truly emerged this weekend. What he sustained over a three days was phenomenal.”
Rohner’s doubles partner Dan Bowser (freshman, Fort Dodge) was one of three freshmen to advance deep in the competition. The doubles tandem of Nick Schnicker (freshman, Burlington) and Jacob Veldhuizen (freshman, Wausau, Wis., East HS) fell in the Flight B semifinals to the eventual champions.
“To have three freshmen playing on the last day shows the talent for the future,” said Mours. “As a coach, it makes me excited for the future.”
