Central women have two champions

PELLA--Freshman Emily Teas (Indianola) won the 400 meters (59.64 seconds) for the Dutch women while taking third in the 200 meters (26.54 seconds). Sophomore Ashley Wiederin (Bedford) was the javelin throw champion with a career-best toss of 119-3.

“Ashley has been continuously working at getting better,” said Sanger. “Things really came together for her today.”

Sophomore Sara Mouw (Greene, North Butler HS) placed second behind Wiederin in the javelin throw with a career best of 117-6. Junior Jess Clark (Port Byron, Ill., Riverdale HS) was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:32.29). Sophomore Amber Mayer (Essex, Shenandoah Hs) placed third in the 10,000 meters (41:51.20).

The women took fourth with 87 points in the 18-team competition. Nebraska Wesleyan was the champion with 176.5 points.

The Dutch will send several athletes to the Drake Relays in Des Moines April 24-26. Entries will be determined early in the week. The remainder of the squad will travel to Indianola to compete in the Kip Janvrin Open Friday evening.

Hutchinson wins heptathlon crown—Central’s Kari Hutchinson (senior, Charles City) took first place and earned NCAA Division III provisional qualifying status in the heptathlon at the Augustana Women’s Invitational Friday and Saturday. Hutchinson posted 4,122 points, shy of her career-best 4,414 but over the provisional standard of 4,100. Jill Ziskovsky (freshman, Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) was third with 3,929 in her first heptathlon.
