Boeke provisionally qualifies at Central triangular

PELLA—After frigid temperatures forced the Central College track and field teams to have an unexpected ten day layoff, the Dutch hosted a triangular with Simpson College and Grand View College under the lights at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium Wednesday.

There were no team scores at the meet.

Junior Rachel Boeke (Cedar Rapids, Thomas Jefferson HS) won the discus throw with a NCAA Div. III provisional-qualifying effort of 143 feet, two inches. She also won the shot put (41-02.5 feet).

“For Rachel to (provisionally qualify) tonight was a good thing,” said coach Kevin Sanger. “She was pretty fired up about it.”

Boeke was not the only women’s track and field member to take home a Trish Hoegrefetitle. Senior Kari Hutchinson (Charles City) won the high jump (4-9.5 feet), freshman Emily Teas (Indianola) was the victor of the 200 meters (25.8 seconds) and the 4x100 meter relay team (50.1 seconds) of. freshman Trish Hogrefe (Albert City, Sioux Central HS), senior Jenny Owens (Treynor), Teas and freshman Jill Ziskovsky (Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS)

“It was a good meet,” said Sanger. “It was much more advantageous than competing this past weekend. We saw some good things that we should be seeing at this time of the year.”

Fisher provisionally qualifies in two events—Senior Jason Fisher (Montezuma) won both the men’s hammer (182 feet) and discus (166-02 feet) throws in provisional-qualifying marks.

Also winning events were: sophomore Kevin Good (Chandler, Ariz.) in the triple jump (40-00.75 feet), freshman Kurtis Brondyke (Clinton) in the long jump (22-05.25 feet), senior Eddie Elkin (Altoona, Southeast Polk HS) in the pole vault (11-05.75), sophomore Cory Hall (Guthrie Center) in the high jump (6-02 feet), sophomore Matt Patrick (Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) in the 400 meters (50 seconds), sophomore Mitch Morris (Naples, Fla., Barron Collier HS) in the 100 meters (10.6 seconds), senior Guy Dierikx (Port Byron Ill., Riverdale HS) in the 200 meters (21.9 seconds) and the 4x100 meter relay team (43.1 seconds) of Morris, Dierikx, freshman Brad Williams (Clinton) and freshman Connor Daily (Ottumwa).
