AMES—After playing some of the toughest competition the Central Region has to offer in recent duals, the Central College men’s tennis team was on the offensive Monday, taking down Morningside College 9-0.
“We played really well,” said coach Bryan Mours. “It was nice as a coach to sit back and watch the guys do the things we have been working so hard on.”
In singles, the Dutch (10-11) saw wins from senior Jared Feddersen (Fort Dodge) at No. 1, Luke Boyd (sophomore, Fort Dodge) at No. 2, freshman Dan Bowser (Fort Dodge) at No. 3, Nick Rohner (senior, Wichita, Kan., Kapaun Mount Carmel HS) at No. 4, junior Joel Druvenga (Spencer) at No. 5, and freshman Jacob Dreyer (Cedar Falls) at No. 6.
While Mours was pleased with all the performances, it was especially rewarding see Feddersen win 6-4, 6-2 over Nabil Sorathia a senior from Sioux City. Feddersen used to do battle with Sorathia in junior tennis but had never been victorious.
“It was nice to see Jared win that match as his career winds down,” said Mours.
In doubles, Central had victories from the tandems of Boyd and Bowser at No. 1, Feddersen and Justin Scherff (senior, Denison, Denison-Schleswig HS) at No. 2, and Rohner and Druvenga at No. 3.
With a full schedule this week, Mours saw the dual as opportunity to utilize his team depth.
“I have confidence in our depth,” he said. “A couple of other people will see action tomorrow against Loras.”
The Dutch take on the Duhawks (2-7) Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Pella.
