Reid Turner follow-through

Central's Turner wins league honor

PELLA—Central College senior Reid Turner (Des Moines, Grandview Park Baptist HS) has been named the Iowa Conference men’s golfer of the week.

Turner was part of a four-way tie for first place at the 22-team Loras Invitational Sunday and Monday, but lost medalist honors to Illinois Wesleyan’s Mike DeRuntz on a tiebreaker. Turner shot 73-75—148 and shared second place with Buena Vista’s Tim Murphy and Illinois Wesleyan’s Matt Wennmaker.

Turner led the Dutch to the team title. Central shot 300-303—603 for an 11-shot victory over No. 6-ranked Illinois Wesleyan. It’s the second straight tournament crown for Central, which captured the 16-team Central Dutch Classic March 28-29.

It’s the second time Turner has received the league honor. He was recognized March 26 last season and was an academic all-conference honoree as well.

Central sophomore Justin Smool (Bagley, Panorama HS) was the league’s player of the week April 1.
